I haven't read the killing joke. The first 30 minutes were ok but didn't connect to the Joker story and therefore made no sense. Even the Joker plot line was boring. The Batman - Batgirl makeout / sex? scene wasn't needed and just felt forced. If this is the story, I think that the comic is overrated. The positives - Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as the Batman and the Joker respectively.

Regardless of the fact whether you have read The Killing Joke or not , you're gonna really enjoy watching this. DC is the unprecedented leader in animated superhero movies. The first half of the movie builds up your anticipation and delivers a new prospect, that of the relation between Batman & Batgirl, though there is a controversial scene . The second half is as good as it gets. What makes this even amazing is the returning voices of Mark Hamill as the joker and Kevin Conroy as the Batman. 4.2/5 from me.

Deducted one star for the useless first 30 mins of Batgirl which were not needed and spoilt the movie. That part was never in the comic and writers thought they could improve the original masterpiece. Well they didn't and screwed up what could have been a flawless movie. Other than the first 30 mins, the movie is brilliant and holds true to the comic. I will never get it why Batgirl part was needed.
