After living in solitude on an island for nearly 40 years, Fushi encounters a young girl who says she is the descendant of someone he once knew.
Without revealing her name, Tonari asks Fushi to show her the faces of the people he has met so far. Later, Fushi finds Hisame in the woods.
Kahaku, a successor of Hayase, tells Fushi that a church has branded him a heretic and requests that he join the Guardians to help fight the Nokkers.
Not wanting to draw the Nokkers to Uralis, Fushi declares his intent to leave the kingdom. Bonchien insists on accompanying him on his journey.
Gaining supporters along their journey, Fushi and his companions arrive at a castle, where its lord begs Fushi to revive his dead daughter.
Fushi rejects Kahaku's advances. At the group's next destination, Bonchien encounters top bishop Cylira, who demands that he hand over Fushi.
A captive Bonchien meets a young boy imprisoned for stealing bread. Over the following days, Cylira attempts to make Bonchien admit to heresy.
The Kingdom of Uralis mourns as word spreads that Bonchien has been executed. Later, the Nokker in Kahaku's arm begins communicating its purpose.
Fushi fights hard to repel the Nokkers' attack, but the effort greatly weakens him and causes him to lose several of his most useful forms.
Bonchien tries to warn the princess of Sonia about the Nokkers but fails to gain her trust. Meanwhile, Fushi rescues a girl from a circus tent.
Fushi arrives in Renril to prepare for the Nokker attack. Bonchien introduces him to some new comrades who have been given important roles to fulfill.
In the guise of a wise man, Fushi works on rebuilding Renril. As Hairo strives to gain the trust of the city’s militia, he tells Fushi about his past.
Using a map of Renril's waterways that Messar received from Alma, Fushi continues building fortifications for the city but begins to feel fatigued.
Alma brings Fushi to the castle, where he meets the king. Pocoa and the others from Uralis arrive in Renril to help prepare for the Nokkers' attack.
Fushi grows exhausted as he uses the prepared defenses to keep the Nokkers at bay, but they find a more insidious way to harm the people of Renril.
Angered by the loss of his comrades, Fushi slaughters the Nokkers but falls into their trap — only to be rescued by some shockingly familiar faces.
Kahaku accuses Bonchien of exploiting Fushi's power of resurrection. Meanwhile, Alma relays some sad news and an important message to Messar.
The resurrected March sets out to find a doctor for Kahaku and help Fushi. As Bonchien looks out over the damaged town, he begins to fear the worst.
Thanks to Bonchien's sacrifice, Fushi reawakes and reunites with his old friends, who pledge to help him finish the fight against the Nokkers.
Having driven off the Nokkers, the people of Renril delight in their hard-won peace. Fushi and his friends discuss their dreams for the future.
