An unassuming college student named Light Yagami finds a notebook with the power to kill: anyone whose name is written in its pages will die.
As L continues to work with the police to identify the mysterious new killer, Light tries to figure out the name of the FBI agent trailing him.
L is now convinced that Light is Kira. To avoid getting caught, Light considers writing his own father’s name in the Death Note.
L has multiple surveillance cameras installed in Light’s house in an attempt to catch Kira in the act of murder.
Misa stops by Light’s house. L pivots to focusing on the second Kira, and asks Light to help him find out who it is.
The murders stop as soon as Light is held under L’s supervision, but just when the police are convinced that Light is Kira, the killings start again.
Light offers to help L in the investigation and, despite their reservations, the two of them start to form a friendship.
Light asks Misa to dig up the red Death Note so she can use the Shinigami Eyes to find out what L’s real name is.
Light thinks he has the upper hand, but L may be a few steps ahead of him. Light returns the red Death Note to Misa.
Light and Soichiro move to save Sayu, bringing the Death Note with them. Near suddenly starts behaving strangely.
Light is even more determined to create a world free of crime, no matter the cost. He finds out where Mello is hiding and makes his move.
