ANDIE, an accomplished young cardiologist, is building a life with her boyfriend PATRICK, a commercial pilot, and his 7-year-old son WILLIE. Andie believes that her purpose as a doctor is to go above and beyond the standards of modern medicine, often becoming an important facet in her patients' lives. But this dedication and care is brought into question when HENRY, one of her young patients with an intellectual disability, meets an untimely accidental death. As Andie grapples with her grief and is confronted by Henry's angry mother GLADYS, her confidence wanes, and she begins to question not only her clinical ability but her loving relationship with Patrick. Faced with a malpractice lawsuit from Gladys and the prospect of sanctioning by the medical review board, Andie seriously considers no longer practicing medicine. When it becomes clear that Andie always acted with Henry's best interests at heart, Gladys finds it in her heart to forgive Andie despite her own grief, and encourages her to continue saving lives. Ultimately, Andie learns that while life can be unpredictable, accepting love and self-forgiveness will only strengthen her commitment to helping others, outweighing theuncertainty she fears.
