Lakhan (Dharmendra), is part of a notorious criminal gang known for looting villages. He gives up the life of a dacoit to settle in domesticity with Champa (Asha Parekh). However, they learn that she is suffering from cancer and the medical bills to pay for her treatment force him to kidnap a little boy. He fails to receive the ransom money when he accidentally ends up killing the boy, and returns home traumatised only to find out that his wife has succumbed to her illness. With police on his trail, guilt weighing him down, and his own three-year-old now motherless son, what will Lakhan do. Will he go back to his gang? Will the man who lost his son because of Lakhan's carelessness ever find out the truth?
